Shirly Pinto

Shirly Pinto‘s lecture focuses on the story of her life so far, which is a kind of social mirror for the Israel of 2023. Shirley’s audiences are exposed to the difficult path that disabled people in the State of Israel have to go through in order to break through boundaries and achieve achievements. At the same time, the lecture focuses on the optimistic parts that show that human willpower and strength, whether it is a person with or without a disability, is stronger than any barrier that stands in the way of achieving goals.

Shirley Pinto, who served as the first deaf Knesset member, and the first deaf representative in the Zionist Congress, was born deaf to a deaf father and a deaf-blind mother. grew up in a home where both parents struggled to integrate into Israeli society and raised their hands. The many question marks and skepticism that accompanied Shirley as a child and teenager, can she succeed as a person with a disability? Fulfill dreams from the lowest and most hopeless point?*
